Just buy this ammo, nothing better unless you reload yourself. But as for me, this ammo will shoot 1/2 groups at 100, unless you are shooting very large numbers of rounds, and if you figure your time as anything. Great on bigger game too. With the accuracy of these, whitetails at 200+yards are certainly not off limits. However, those are head and neck shots which put them down immediately. I have yet to try for a heart shot, but I am positive it would work equally as well. Accuracy is everything, and these factory loads are awesome on paper and in the field.

I shoot these rounds out a savage axis ll not a expensive gun at all I think I paid somewhere around $400 ish for the rifle. Also it came with a 3×9 bushnell banner dusk till dawn scope. The rifle was bore sighted and after about 2 shots I had it dialed into the bullseye. I was zeroing it at 50 yards roughly then lowered my crosshairs down to the specifications on the back of the box for 100 yards. Again bullseye. I was cutting holes with these rounds repeatedly on just a sand bag rest.

Shot 5 different ammos through this gun, including some cheap F&S, Barnes 69 grain, Barnes 85 grain (came in 2nd), and IMI 77 grain. Once barrel was warmed up, this Hornady Black 75 was tightest, MOA at 100 yards. Some shooter error in there as well, I think it can get even tighter. For the cost, amazing BC and solid SD, this is my new ammo of choice. Now to hunt with it!

With the advanced cartridge making done by today’s makers I don’t handload…”I”… that is precision. COAL is everything to your rifle. The jump from throat to lands is very very important to down range ballistics. So I sighted in a new Ruger American chambered in 5.56×45, 1/8″ CHF bbl., with its stock base, walmart rings and a walmart Nikon at 100m. The image depicts Hornadys TAP line of .223 55g VMAX’s. These loads are almost identical except for the crimp cannelure. Hornady doesn’t use a cannelure on the varmint express because chances are it’s going into a bolt gun and not a semi rifle. Either way, I have taken many many many coyotes and shot sub minute groups with this round.

Great round. Very consistent. Shooting at distance and in pretty stiff wind in SD and it performed well. To be honest, it shot identically to some reloads using the Nosler version of this bullet. My AR is a different rifle with this bullet versus the any of the common FMJ available. As I shoot out my FMJ I’ll be reloading with this bullet from now on. Hornady put together great rounds and produces very consistent performance.

Far and away the most accurate round out of my Ruger AR556. I’ve tried about a dozen different loads and this is a clear winner. Nothing else is even close. I haven’t hunted with this (& don’t really varmint hunt so Ill likely never get the chance) so I can’t speak for its performance on game. But consistency and accuracy is sooo good I may try a couple Hornady loads in my deer rifle after using Barnes exclusively the last couple of years.

I ordered 2 or 3 boxes of this a while back, along with a couple boxes of the 40 gr. Varmint Express. I finally did some patterning with them the other day. It was really windy & the Lux has a skinny barrel, so I only shot groups of 3. I got right under MOA averages with the biggest spread being under 1.25 on all groups. Not bad factoring conditions & that I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’m not the greatest shot in the world. I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’m sure I can get slightly under .75 MOA groups with this combo with a little work on my part, but I was getting .360 & under groupings with the 40 gr. Not the greatest, but still more than acceptable. I have no doubts faster twist would be perfect for the 55 gr. and earn that 5th star. Definitely worth trying out.

I tested 8 different loads of 55 gr 223 through my 1-9 twist, and this Hornady v-max gave the tightest groups. It was just a tenth inch tighter than Nosler Varmageddon and 3/10 inch tighter than the Hornady TAP groups. I ran 20 rounds of each load, with the first 5 shots wasted for adjustment – only included the first five shots in the calculations where no adjustment was necessary. I tested outdoors with 2-15mph winds but mostly waited for no wind before taking shots. Other loads that didn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’t fair too well were PRVI (worst), Winchester NATO 2nd worst, Fiocchi 3rd worst, Hornady GMX Lead-Free 4th worst. I sighted in my home built AR15 at 100 yards. I recently killed a 50 lb male coyote at 209 yards with 1 shot. This stuff shoots very flat! Also I was amazed to see that there was no exit wound on the coyote, The bullet expanded after penetration shredding the heart and lodged in the far lung. Maximum damage!

300yd shots at coyotes are no problem! One round and they are in the dirt. This round seems to blowup when it hits! No ftfire, fteject,or jams in mini14. Holds really good groups at 200yds bottom of coke can size.

These rounds are consistent and I can get 1/4″ group at 100yds using an AR with good trigger and the AR Stoner fluted stainless 18″ barrel product 794051 .223 Remington (Wylde) also sold by Midway. Also shoot very tight in an older Savage bolt, and another bolt gun I’ve tried it in, and other AR_s. Actually, .223 V-Max shoots about as tight as good hand loads in everything I have seen it used in, especially with free float and good trigger, but can’t say that about every Hornady polymer tipped round in some of the other calibers (like A-Max .308, not found to be as good as the .223). Might also depend on the particular firearm, though, so try some and see what you get.
