An outstanding product my new AR loves this stuff, and V-max already has a great rep

  2. Kai (verified owner)

I searched for a round that my .223 bolt action fired consistently. The first time I fired this ammo I was shooting clover leaf patterns at 100 yards and 1\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” to 1.5\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” inch groups at 200 yards. This ammo stops the Yotes in their tracks.

  3. David (verified owner)

No hangups or misfires. No issues with accuracy.

  4. Bryan (verified owner)

Works very well on coyotes. Very consistent and accurate out of my 18″ Seekins barrel. Feeds well. No issues at all.

  5. Edward (verified owner)

Great round. Very consistent. Shooting at distance and in pretty stiff wind in SD and it performed well. To be honest, it shot identically to some reloads using the Nosler version of this bullet. My AR is a different rifle with this bullet versus the any of the common FMJ available. As I shoot out my FMJ I’ll be reloading with this bullet from now on. Hornady put together great rounds and produces very consistent performance.

  6. Daniel (verified owner)

I shoot these rounds out a savage axis ll not a expensive gun at all I think I paid somewhere around $400 ish for the rifle. Also it came with a 3×9 bushnell banner dusk till dawn scope. The rifle was bore sighted and after about 2 shots I had it dialed into the bullseye. I was zeroing it at 50 yards roughly then lowered my crosshairs down to the specifications on the back of the box for 100 yards. Again bullseye. I was cutting holes with these rounds repeatedly on just a sand bag rest.

  7. Aadarsh (verified owner)

Great shooting ammo would buy again.

Out of a DPMS Bull 20, shot 1/4\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” groups at 100 yards and at 200 yards shot 3/4\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” groups multiple times with a slight cross wind. Very clean ammo cycles perfect and shoots great. My groups were also five shot groups at both 100 and 200 yards.

  9. Matthew (verified owner)

Purchased in both 40gr and 55gr to compare. The 55gr was far superior in my Ruger M77. After much searching for a load in my reloading efforts, I was able to find one that fairly satisfied me. My reloads are only marginally more consistent and accurate than the Hornadys. This would definitely be my go-to round for predator hunting. I LIKE \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\”EM!!!!!

  10. William (verified owner)

Great on bigger game too. With the accuracy of these, whitetails at 200+yards are certainly not off limits. However, those are head and neck shots which put them down immediately. I have yet to try for a heart shot, but I am positive it would work equally as well. Accuracy is everything, and these factory loads are awesome on paper and in the field.

MOUNTED NEW SCOPE ON MY REMINGTON 700 223 FIRED 2 GROUPS OF 3 SHOOTS AT 100 YARDS FROM BENCH,BOTH GROUPS WERE TOUCHING EACH OTHER. VERY IMPRESSED WITH AMMO. I WILL ORDER THE TURRET FOR MY NEW SCOPE USING THIS AMMO. ORDERED 2 MORE BOXES TODAY.

I have a Rock River 18″ Predator Pursuit in stainless with a 1/8″ twist. She’s topped off with a Nikon with turret set for 3240ft/sec rounds. When I’m having a really good day, these rounds will just about go through the same hole every time. Took a young man deer hunting with me last year and he made a 225yd head shot his 2nd time ever on the gun. Also had these rounds at the range with a guy next to me shooting hand loaded customs, and I was out shooting him. He asked what I was shooting and looked visibly upset that I was shooting factory loads. Tried other loads a couple years ago and a few were OK, but these Hornadys beat the pants off anything else I’ve tried. I’ve also smacked a couple coyotes with these rounds with “dirt nap” results. With the accuracy these Hornadys have, there’s no good reason for me to even try any other round.

  13. Avery (verified owner)

I have shot these out of 1-7 and 1-8 twist barrels. Both barrels shot 1/2\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” at 100 yards. The slight bit of inaccuracy was likely due on my part. As for hunting, I have successfully taken down hogs with this 55gr bullet. One shot and they didn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’t move. I have my own built AR-15, Spike lower with fixed stock, 2 stage trigger 3 1/2lbs. pull RRA with a delton upper, 24\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” SS bull barrel Stag Arms 1/8 Twist and this rifle LOVES Hornady V-Max 55gr. I can put 3 in the same whole and 5 rounds within a dime and/or nikle size at 100yds, and 1\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” group at 200 yds. 🙂

No worries about needing a second shot. 130 yards on 1 of the biggest groundhogs I have ever seen. I wasn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’t sure if he was hit because he never moved at all. Until the familiar tail wiggle. This is the only round I buy for my Stag Arms AR 1 in 9 twist. Hope this helps..

Originally purchased these to compare to the accuracy of my handloads.

This is amazingly accurate, and produces devastating results on coyotes. I use nothing but this ammo when on the hunt for Wiley Coyote! Ground hogs will vaporize on contact!

I have been using this particular Hornady ammunition for several years now. I have compared it to custom Match Grade factory ammo and meticulously handloaded Match Grade specs ammo. It has ALWAYS produced equal and quite often better results. Shooting this particular round out of a pre-ban Colt SP-1 from a bench, I was astounded at the accuracy. I placed 6 rounds one on top of the other at 150 meters and had thought something had gone awry when I didn’t see any further “splats’n See target I was using. The 1st round impacted the target at dead center right on the cross and each subsequent round (total of 6) impacted the same hole. It wasn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’t until I walked downrange and physically inspected and then measured the target, along with a fellow shooter, that I discovered what had actually taken place. Sub-MOA nothing; it\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’s what I would term \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\”surgical-precision\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” results! Needless to say I was grinning like a jack@$$ eatin\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’ briars! I tried to upload pics of the target, etc. with this review, however; the internet wasn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’t cooperating. Therefore, unfortunately, there are no pictures included for you to see the superb accuracy of this ammo on the actual target for yourself. When I took this ammo out into the field I was even more pleasantly surprized. It will drop any game from varmints to deer and wild hogs \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\”DRT\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” (dead right there) in it\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’s tracks (with a properly placed shot of course). It\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’s as if you ran up to whatever game you\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’re shooting and hit it in the head with a 5 lb. sledge hammer. The spent brass also reloads easily with a minimum amount of prepping. Thank you so very much Hornady for producing such a super grade round at such an affordable price and Thank you Midway for carrying it.

The ammo will shoot 0.75 groups all day if I do my part. I tried 10 different manufacturer loads until I found this Hornady load and this was the factory load my rifle likes the best.

I bought this ammo out of a wim.and man with a ruger 223 I shoot dime size groups at 150 yards no problem.absolutely no problems with loading and unloading.unlike cheap ammo.I now shoot all Hornady red tip ammo out of all my rifles.

I am a Marine and when in the Corps in the early 90’s we qualified for the M-16 rifle out to 500 Meters using ball ammo. I put Hornady’s V-Max .223 to the test using my Bushmaster and M&P-15 Ar’s. They shoot good groups at a point target at 500 Meters and decent kill shots at an area target at 800 Meters. I didn’t have the range where I was shooting to shoot past 800 meters, but I would guess it would work fine out to 1000 Meters. Great Product!!!

  26. David (verified owner)

Just what you would expect from Hornady products. Shoots sub MOA groups. Havn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’t had a chance to try on coyote yet, but it is fast, accurate, and dependable.

Shot 5 different ammos through this gun, including some cheap F&S, Barnes 69 grain, Barnes 85 grain (came in 2nd), and IMI 77 grain. Once barrel was warmed up, this Hornady Black 75 was tightest, MOA at 100 yards. Some shooter error in there as well, I think it can get even tighter. For the cost, amazing BC and solid SD, this is my new ammo of choice. Now to hunt with it!

I ordered 2 or 3 boxes of this a while back, along with a couple boxes of the 40 gr. Varmint Express. I have an older model CZ 527 Lux with a 1-12\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” twist. I finally did some patterning with them the other day. It was really windy & the Lux has a skinny barrel, so I only shot groups of 3. I got right under MOA averages with the biggest spread being under 1.25 on all groups. Not bad factoring conditions & that I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’m not the greatest shot in the world. I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’m sure I can get slightly under .75 MOA groups with this combo with a little work on my part, but I was getting .360 & under groupings with the 40 gr. I had to take off 1 star because that\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’s the performance it gave me. Not the greatest, but still more than acceptable. I have no doubts faster twist would be perfect for the 55 gr. and earn that 5th star. Definitely worth trying out.

It has been very accurate, giving me the best groups of any of the 12 different makes and versions of .223 ammo that I tested.

I have been using the 55 grain load in my mini 14. Most shots are less than 100 yds in the big woods of New York’s Catskill mountains. Our larger Eastern coyote’s can go to 70 lbs and are no match to this excellent round. Will be using this for many years to come.

This is the gold standard in my opinion for 223 ammo. It is very consistent in my rifle and by other reviews it works great for most people.

My gun is zero at 100 yards with 55gr bullets so I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’m not surprised when my groups are low with a 75 grain projectile. Seems I always manage to throw one in an otherwise great group. Out of a 4 groove, 1:8 twist Shilen barrel with matched bolt (also from Midway). Am back at this site to get some more of this stuff!

My grandson and I are novice predator hunters. I own a .223 caliber rifle and have used mainly the Hornady .223 55 grain bullet and the results have been solid. No complains and I will continue to use this load.
