On a recent trip to the range, using my new Browning X-Bolt Stainless Stalker, .270 Win, I shot the following: Hornady American Whitetail 130 grain (best .848 inch); Federal Fusion 130 grain (best .410 inch). But the Federal Fusion also kept its grouping with a cold and hot barrel. I’m going to stock up on the Fusion 130 grain!

After shooting 100 rounds there was no FTF or misfeeds. I am very impressed with how accurate the ammo is.

These grouped down to less than .75\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” out of my 223 Sako Varmint. But, they splash real bad at the speed these things are going (3100 – 3200fps). Even on something as small as adult prairie dogs, they \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\”blow up” and make a large (3″ – 4″blister” type wound and don’t even get through the animals. I found this to be a problem with all the thin jacket “Varmint” bullets though. I finally hand loaded some Sierra 55 grain SBT\’s that do the job 100% better.

I only have 50-yard small bore targets. The 10-ring is about the size of a nickel. I set the target at 200-yards. This product is very consistent. 5-shots in the ten ring grouping . No miss shots or fires.

Super accurate out of my 1/9 twist M&P 15 Sport. Great results on pigs and coyotes.

300yd shots at coyotes are no problem! One round and they are in the dirt. This round seems to blowup when it hits! No ftfire, fteject,or jams in mini14. Holds really good groups at 200yds bottom of coke can size.

Shot 5 different ammos through this gun, including some cheap F&S, Barnes 69 grain, Barnes 85 grain (came in 2nd), and IMI 77 grain. Once barrel was warmed up, this Hornady Black 75 was tightest, MOA at 100 yards. Some shooter error in there as well, I think it can get even tighter. For the cost, amazing BC and solid SD, this is my new ammo of choice. Now to hunt with it!

I enjoy bench rest shooting with my AR 15. These rounds consistently shoot under 3/4 MOA when I do my part. No other factory round has ever done that for me!

Out of my Windham AR, this is the most accurate ammo I have used. I bought a box and fired that at 100 yards. It was so good I bought 20 boxes!! I am using it to thin the Feral Hogs around here in central Texas.

I get ½ inch groups at 100 yards from both my both my Mossberg MVP Varmit 1:9 twist and Rock River Varminter. Accurate, consistent, reliable. Would consider it for coyotes out to 300 yards and smaller varmints up to 500. Also, a good price point.

I have a Rock River 18″ Predator Pursuit in stainless with a 1/8″ twist. She’s topped off with a Nikon with turret set for 3240ft/sec rounds. When I’m having a really good day, these rounds will just about go through the same hole every time. Took a young man deer hunting with me last year and he made a 225yd head shot his 2nd time ever on the gun. Also had these rounds at the range with a guy next to me shooting hand loaded customs, and I was out shooting him. He asked what I was shooting and looked visibly upset that I was shooting factory loads. Tried other loads a couple years ago and a few were OK, but these Hornadys beat the pants off anything else I’ve tried. I’ve also smacked a couple coyotes with these rounds with “dirt nap” results. With the accuracy these Hornadys have, there’s no good reason for me to even try any other round.

    Blasting zombie targets!

  24. Matthew (verified owner)

The ammo will shoot 0.75 groups all day if I do my part. I tried 10 different manufacturer loads until I found this Hornady load and this was the factory load my rifle likes the best.

  25. Samuel (verified owner)

Far and away the most accurate round out of my Ruger AR556. I’ve tried about a dozen different loads and this is a clear winner. Nothing else is even close. I haven’t hunted with this (& don’t really varmint hunt so Ill likely never get the chance) so I can’t speak for its performance on game. But consistency and accuracy is sooo good I may try a couple Hornady loads in my deer rifle after using Barnes exclusively the last couple of years.

  26. Dylan (verified owner)

I shot a 145 lbs Hog at 120 yards and drop him in his tracks. Upon inspecting the hog the bullet did everything that other viewers had said the round would do.

The round expands great and is devastating to groundhogs.

As a Firearms retailer I get a lot of request for this ammo. My customers feel it performs exactly as and in many cases better than expected. They use it for both varmint and whitetail and hunting. I myself have used it on whitetail and hog and have been well pleased. I highly recommend this and many other Hornady Ammunition. However, remember that all firearms do not shoot different ammo as accurately as others. It is up to the individual and their likes and dislikes that determines their preferences on ammunition.

After sight in of scope, I have never shot a 5 shot group @ 100m over a 1 moa. Also works good in Colt sp1 and Colt A2.

  36. Owen (verified owner)

I shoot these rounds out a savage axis ll not a expensive gun at all I think I paid somewhere around $400 ish for the rifle. Also it came with a 3Ă—9 bushnell banner dusk till dawn scope. The rifle was bore sighted and after about 2 shots I had it dialed into the bullseye. I was zeroing it at 50 yards roughly then lowered my crosshairs down to the specifications on the back of the box for 100 yards. Again bullseye. I was cutting holes with these rounds repeatedly on just a sand bag rest.

I searched for a round that my .223 bolt action fired consistently. The first time I fired this ammo I was shooting clover leaf patterns at 100 yards and 1\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” to 1.5\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” inch groups at 200 yards. This ammo stops the Yotes in their tracks.

I shoot this out of my bushmaster predator with 1/2\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” accuracy. I sighted in my home built AR15 at 100 yards. I recently killed a 50 lb male coyote at 209 yards with 1 shot. This stuff shoots very flat! Also I was amazed to see that there was no exit wound on the coyote, The bullet expanded after penetration shredding the heart and lodged in the far lung. Maximum damage!
