Remington Core-Lokt Ammunition 7.62x39mm
The Remington Core-Lokt Ammunition 7.62x39mm 124Grain round is a rimless bottlenecked intermediate cartridge of Soviet origin. But the cartridge is widely used due to the worldwide proliferation of Russian SKS and AK-47 pattern rifles and RPD and RPK light machine guns. Soon after World War II, the AK-47 was designed, becoming the most widely used military-pattern rifle. The cartridge remained the Soviet measure until the 1970s. It was primarily superseded in Soviet service by the 5.45×39mm cartridge, which was introduced with the new AK-74 rifle. It continues in service with the modernized current-issue Russian Armed Forces AK-74M service and the AK-12 rifle. In the 21st century, the 7.62×39mm remains a standard service rifle chambering, including for newly developed rifles like the AK-15. After more detailed testing, the Remington core lokt 124Grain results became available. Starting in 1947, the Ulyanovsk Machine-Building Plant tweaked the cartridge to improve its accuracy and penetration. Originally, the boat tail had been omitted because Soviet designers had (incorrectly) assumed that it would only make a difference at long ranges when the bullet went subsonic. But the accuracy of the intermediate cartridge at these ranges was considered inconsequential.
