This ammo lives up to the high standards you expect from Hornady. Excellent accuracy,, flat shooting, very consistent I took a coyote at 250 yards with no exit wound, the bullet penetrated but expanded and stayed in the animal. He dropped in his tracks!

  2. Mason (verified owner)

Very accurate for a factory load in my 223 Remington 700 VTR. Midway USA Has the best prices.

  3. Isaac (verified owner)

I enjoy bench rest shooting with my AR 15. These rounds consistently shoot under 3/4 MOA when I do my part. No other factory round has ever done that for me!

  4. Robert (verified owner)

I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’ve been looking for an accurate round for my AR and these have performed great. I have a 20\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” 1:8 barrel and have tried many different bullet weights by different manufactures. 1/2\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” at 100 yards in 15+ mph winds and that was 8 shots no flyers.

Perfect if you\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’re selling pelts like me and don\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’t want huge exit holes. Never been one that really goes for groups but I would assume they shoot sub moa because I can shoot possums and skunks at 200 yards no problem that are eating the bait for the coyotes… I won\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’t be changing loads in my ar any time soon. Using my Tikka T3 at 100′ I can put 10 rounds in a dime. I have taken prairie dogs 300. Burns clean, no FTF or FTE. this is excellent ammo.

  9. Camden (verified owner)

Awesome round for Coyotes. Used this ammo out of my DPMS AR (Sweet16) and dont think Ill buy any other brand. Puts the yotes down easily. Took this round out to about 250 yds, no problem.

  10. Phoenix (verified owner)

I use this ammo in an older Remington 700 BDL varmint rifle with heavy bull barrel. This ammo is tack driving accurate out to 200 yards each and every time I use it. Highly recommended.

I have tried many other brands of ammo, these grouped the best for my rifle.

  16. Michael (verified owner)

Great round. Very consistent. Shooting at distance and in pretty stiff wind in SD and it performed well. To be honest, it shot identically to some reloads using the Nosler version of this bullet. My AR is a different rifle with this bullet versus the any of the common FMJ available. As I shoot out my FMJ I’ll be reloading with this bullet from now on. Hornady put together great rounds and produces very consistent performance.

  18. Richard (verified owner)

This is by far my favorite ammo in my AR’s. It consistently shoots sub MOA groups in all of my rifles. The effects on varmints is devastating.

  19. Edward (verified owner)

When I don’t have time to load my own – this is my go to factory round. Shoots 1 MOA out of my Krieger – smacks prairie dogs out to 300 yards – no problem.

  20. Edward (verified owner)

My favorite ammunition for coyotes, squirrels, and any other vermin or predators that end up in my crosshairs. Accuracy is great, and I have no problem using this as a home defense ammunition out of my MSR. Or, as a hunting round from my MSR. Great stuff!

  21. Ryder (verified owner)

After shooting 100 rounds there was no FTF or misfeeds. I am very impressed with how accurate the ammo is.

I recently purchased a ruger mini 14 in 223. I was expecting groups to fall within the 2 to 3 inch range at a hundred yards. At least that\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’s what the forums were telling me. I have used hornady ammo in my hunting guns,my self defense guns and my competition guns and hornady has never let me down. This 223 55gr v-max is no exception. It shoots 3 shot groups that measure just over 3/4 inch center to center at a hundred yards. This is way better than i expected. Blows rats to pieces. I will be using this ammo for all my varmint needs in this rifle as well as keeping protesters off my porch. Go Trump

Very impressive for a factory load.

I searched for a round that my .223 bolt action fired consistently. The first time I fired this ammo I was shooting clover leaf patterns at 100 yards and 1\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” to 1.5\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” inch groups at 200 yards. I tested 8 different loads of 55 gr 223 through my 1-9 twist, and this Hornady v-max gave the tightest groups. It was just a tenth inch tighter than Nosler Varmageddon and 3/10 inch tighter than the Hornady TAP groups. I ran 20 rounds of each load, with the first 5 shots wasted for adjustment – only included the first five shots in the calculations where no adjustment was necessary. I tested outdoors with 2-15mph winds but mostly waited for no wind before taking shots. Other loads that didn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’t fair too well were PRVI (worst), Winchester NATO 2nd worst, Fiocchi 3rd worst, Hornady GMX Lead-Free 4th worst. Barnes VOR-TX Lead-free came right behind the Hornady TAP at 4th best by 3/10 inch and beat Hornady\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’s GMX Lead-Free load by 3/10 inch.

With the advanced cartridge making done by today’s makers I don’t handload…”I”… that is precision. COAL is everything to your rifle. The jump from throat to lands is very very important to down range ballistics. So I sighted in a new Ruger American chambered in 5.56×45, 1/8″ CHF bbl., with its stock base, walmart rings and a walmart Nikon at 100m. The image depicts Hornadys TAP line of .223 55g VMAX’s. These loads are almost identical except for the crimp cannelure. Hornady doesn’t use a cannelure on the varmint express because chances are it’s going into a bolt gun and not a semi rifle. Either way, I have taken many many many coyotes and shot sub minute groups with this round.

Shot 5 different ammos through this gun, including some cheap F&S, Barnes 69 grain, Barnes 85 grain (came in 2nd), and IMI 77 grain. Once barrel was warmed up, this Hornady Black 75 was tightest, MOA at 100 yards. Some shooter error in there as well, I think it can get even tighter. For the cost, amazing BC and solid SD, this is my new ammo of choice. Now to hunt with it!

  35. Nathaniel (verified owner)

0.5″ group at 100 yards was the smallest group I got using this ammo in a Remington 700 Varmint 2″ fluted barrel with 1:12″ twist.

  36. Hayden (verified owner)

great ammo like most of hornady, my ar loves it, .5 groups at 100yrds.

I wanted some cases to reload so bought the product when it was on sale. It is okay ammo but not precision ammo. Shoots under 1 MOA. 55 Grain bullet too heavy for sage rat shooting but over all it would be okay if you didn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’t reload and just wanted some fairly inexpensive ammo for you rifle.

I shoot this out of my bushmaster predator with 1/2\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” accuracy. Try it you\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’ll love it!

  40. Max (verified owner)

This is amazingly accurate, and produces devastating results on coyotes. I use nothing but this ammo when on the hunt for Wiley Coyote! Ground hogs will vaporize on contact!

  41. Anthony (verified owner)

My gun is zero at 100 yards with 55gr bullets so I\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’m not surprised when my groups are low with a 75 grain projectile. Seems I always manage to throw one in an otherwise great group. Out of a 4 groove, 1:8 twist Shilen barrel with matched bolt (also from Midway). Am back at this site to get some more of this stuff!

  42. Ryker (verified owner)

I have shot these out of 1-7 and 1-8 twist barrels. Both barrels shot 1/2\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\” at 100 yards. The slight bit of inaccuracy was likely due on my part. As for hunting, I have successfully taken down hogs with this 55gr bullet. One shot and they didn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’t move. Far and away the most accurate round out of my Ruger AR556. I’ve tried about a dozen different loads and this is a clear winner. Nothing else is even close. I haven’t hunted with this (& don’t really varmint hunt so Ill likely never get the chance) so I can’t speak for its performance on game. But consistency and accuracy is sooo good I may try a couple Hornady loads in my deer rifle after using Barnes exclusively the last couple of years.

  44. Aadarsh (verified owner)

This ammo is perfect for taking those groundhogs that my 17 HMR can\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’t reach. The round expands great and is devastating to groundhogs.

I have a Rock River 18″ Predator Pursuit in stainless with a 1/8″ twist. She’s topped off with a Nikon with turret set for 3240ft/sec rounds. When I’m having a really good day, these rounds will just about go through the same hole every time. Took a young man deer hunting with me last year and he made a 225yd head shot his 2nd time ever on the gun. Also had these rounds at the range with a guy next to me shooting hand loaded customs, and I was out shooting him. He asked what I was shooting and looked visibly upset that I was shooting factory loads. Tried other loads a couple years ago and a few were OK, but these Hornadys beat the pants off anything else I’ve tried. I’ve also smacked a couple coyotes with these rounds with “dirt nap” results. With the accuracy these Hornadys have, there’s no good reason for me to even try any other round.
